Welcome to Branchburg, NJ

Branchburg Township is located in Somerset County, just minutes south from the intersection of Interstates 78 and 287 and less than an hour from Newark and New York City. It has been described as "not-quite-rural, not-quite-suburban" by Rolling Stone, because of the mix of modern neighborhoods built over the last few decades with rolling hills, pastures, farmlands, and countryside.  

You will find places to work here in Branchburg, Such as 31 Tannery Project, but commuting into the city is easy with train and bus service to and from New York. Highways 202 and 22 also provide easy access to major roadways that lead into Newark and New York.

There is plenty to do in and around Branchburg Township, ranging from shopping and dining to golf and nature preserves. Branchburg Township is also a family-friendly community with good schools and over 200 acres of parks and green spaces. Raritan Valley Community College is located here, too.

The Raritan tribe of Native Americans originally inhabited the land where Branchburg Township sits today, and by the late 1600s, most of it was sold to Dutch and English settlers. The township was officially established on April 5, 1845 and named "Branchburg" because it sits where the branches of the Raritan River meet. Today, just under 15,000 people live within the township's 20.2 square miles.

Dining, Shopping, and Entertainment in Branchburg

Branchburg is largely residential, but you will find a few attractions in the township, as well as along the outskirts. Whether you crave pizza or burgers, Mexican or Asian cuisine, you will find it all in Branchburg. Sol Mexican Cantina is a popular spot to enjoy tacos, drinks, and guacamole. Masala Art serves up delicious Indian food. Stoney Brook Grille is a great place to enjoy the classics, and Willie McBride's Restaurant and Pub is a favorite neighborhood hangout.

The Neshanic Valley Golf Course is one of the highest ranked public courses in New Jersey. Raritan Valley Community College offers theatrical productions throughout the year. Duke Farms Botanical Gardens is just to the east of the township.

The Bridgewater Towne Center is also just next to the township. It is home to stores like Home Depot, Party City, Wegmans, and JoS. A. Bank. Head a little further up the road for exciting mall shopping at Bridgewater Commons. Stores include Bloomingdale's, Apple, Macy's, Guess, Sephora, Pottery Barn, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Michael Kors.

Parks and Playgrounds in Branchburg

There are several community parks located in Branchburg Township. The largest is the 172-acre White Oak Park. It features soccer and lacrosse fields, baseball and softball fields, batting cages, tennis courts, a basketball court, sand volleyball courts, a 1.5-mile walking path, nature trails, playgrounds, a tot lot, picnic tables and pavilions, a campfire ring, a pond, a concession stand, and more.

The 12-acre Old Towne Park has a roller hockey rink, basketball court, multi-purpose fields, a playground, a walking trail, and picnic areas. Brandywine Park is popular for its playground, while Marshall Street Park and Ten Eyck Park also have playgrounds and ball fields.

The Raritan River forms part of the border of Branchburg Township and runs through the South Branch Reserve. Popular activities here include canoeing and fishing the river, as well as hiking the reservation's trails.

When it comes to real estate in Branchburg Township, there is something for every taste and budget, ranging from small starter homes to large sprawling country estates. The area saw a population boom during the 1980s and 1990s, so you will find an assortment of established neighborhoods built around that time. There is also some new construction. Public school students will attend schools in the Branchburg Township School District for kindergarten through eighth grade and Somerville Public Schools for ninth through twelfth grades.
